Joe Stevenson gets Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt from Phenom Robert Drysdale!

Robert Drysdale, the Las Vegas Jiu JiTsu professor, recently awarded a Black Belt to UFC fighter Joe Stevenson. Robert has been training with Joe extensively and has been helping him polish his Jiu-Jitsu skills in preperation for Joe’s fight against Ken florian for UFC 91. Robert and Joe have been training together extensively and Drysdale has servered as a coach for Joe for his last 3 UFC fights. Lots of fighter consider trash talk the only way to sell a fight to the crowd!

It’s the same story since the beginning of time… Well at least since the beginning of pro-fighting!

We all remember the irritating fight promos from Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson in the old days.

It’s the same thing in Mixed Martial Arts. Most of the fighters plug their upcoming fights calling death wishes and making a fool of their future adversaries to get headlines! It’s so obvious and overdone that no one even pay attention to them anymore!

Nevertheless, what I like best about trash talk promo is when fighters look like morons when the fight goes the other way. I just love it, thinking about the spoofs they made hours earlier while watching their new aspects or watching the ass whooping replay!

Simply because I love laughing out loud, I decided to make a top ten list of the most ridiculous trash talk promo succeeded by the most mortifying and painful outcome for the big talker!

The life of a working class MMA Fighter, Ran Nakash

From the Philadelphia Weekly comes a fascinating story of a working-class MMA fighter from Israel named Ran Nakash. In 2007 Ran Nakash was appointed to Head the IDF’s krav maga school. Chief Commander of the IDF’s krav maga instructional division is the highest ranking professional authority in Krav Maga

Sure he can do that footwork thing, take on a defensive crouching posture and maintain a special kind of discipline that comes from years of martial arts training and military service in Israel. But really, it’s as simple as this: the bell rings, Nakash comes directly at you, feels you out for a moment, then moves in close—relentlessly close—and launches a series of devastating blows until it’s over. Sometimes this resembles a boxing match, sometimes it looks like a beating.

Oh, and in order to qualify for the cruiserweight division, he’ll have to sweat off a few pounds the day of the fight, a process that involves a long run in a sweatshirt. Hours after the fight is over—regardless of what condition he’s in— Nakash will get back on a plane and fly back to Israel. Ideally, he won’t get his face punched in too seriously so he can look nice at his wedding in November.

Tito Ortiz is out for six months, probably headed to EliteXC

According to MMAJunkie.com, Tito Ortiz, the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” recently revealed to that he will be out of commission for the next six months, but a deal may be signed this month to bring the former UFC champion to EliteXC.

In August Ortiz announced that he was about to sign a deal with Affliction Entertainment, an upstart organization with deep pockets, with what he called a “ground-breaking record contract.”

However, Ortiz said Affliction has also recently been ruled out.

As a proven draw in the UFC, Ortiz has been involved in some of the most memorable — and profitable — shows in UFC history. And while the UFC has recently come under fire for forcibly requiring their fighters to sign a binding licensing agreement, Ortiz said he simply wants to earn a piece of the pie his name recognition earns.

“The brand of me the last 11 years, the competition I’ve been doing, I feel like I got my ass kicked the last 11 years. I’ve set some historical marks, and now I’ve set some goals for fighters in the future. Myself, I defended my world title five consecutive times. I’ve done a lot in the last 11 years that I think a company needs a name like myself to succeed. And EliteXC may be that company.” 

I still think Tito Ortiz is one of the most overrated MMA fighters out there today, but I wouldn’t get in the cage with him.
